Workshop - Managing Empathy — developing without burning out
YOU...
Empathy is the most powerful relational skill—and one of the most poorly managed. Between managers who exhaust themselves absorbing their team's emotions and those who have learned to shut themselves off to protect themselves, there is a third way: grounded, conscious, and regulated empathy.
Empathic distress—common in helping professions—also affects managers, HR professionals, coaches, and leaders who are deeply invested in their teams. It is not a weakness: it is a neurological signal that must be understood and managed.
Do you often feel exhausted after days of emotionally charged meetings or conversations?
You find it difficult to create distance without feeling insensitive or absent.
You work in a helping profession (medical, HR, coaching, social work) and you are approaching your emotional limit.
You wish to develop your empathy intentionally and sustainably
Why choose this path?
A pragmatic approach that radically transforms your relationship with everyday life.
Understanding the difference between emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, and compassion
Developing grounded empathy — being present with others without being absorbed by their emotions
Identify your own signs of compassion fatigue before you reach the breaking point
Mastering post-interaction regulation practices: breathing, refocusing, gratitude
Leave with a personal protocol to maintain emotional openness over time
Step 1 — Calm the body through breathing
Breathing is the only function of the autonomic nervous system that we can consciously control. By modulating its rate and depth, we directly affect the vagus nerve—the body's parasympathetic brake—and reduce cortisol and adrenaline levels.
"Breathing creates mood changes, not the other way around." — Prof. Kraswnow, PhD, Stanford, 2017.
Step 2 — From imposed empathy to chosen and controlled empathy
Thanks to "mirror neurons," we automatically resonate with the emotions of others. Mindfulness allows us to create a space between this feeling and our response—to observe without being swept away. This is what neuroscience calls empathic regulation: neither shutting down nor merging.
